וַיַּשְׁכִּ֣ימוּ בַבֹּ֔קֶר וְהַשֶּׁ֖מֶשׁ זָרְחָ֣ה עַל־הַמָּ֑יִם וַיִּרְא֨וּ מוֹאָ֥ב מִנֶּ֛גֶד אֶת־הַמַּ֖יִם אֲדֻמִּ֥ים כַּדָּֽם׃
And they rose up early in the morning, and the sun shone upon the water, and the Moabites saw the water some way off as red as blood;

Red as blood. Such is the nature of water; when the sun shines on it in the morning, causes it to appear red.
